The emergence of sheet metal material that is becoming increasingly higher solid leads to new challenges for the separating method of shearing that is mostly used in industrial practice. A higher wear of the cutting elements and an overload of the cutting presses through the cutting impact are only two aspects that occur while processing modern material. Besides, the forming process is more difficult due to a higher sensitivity of edge crack of sheared semi-finished parts. These problems have a negative effect on the economic efficiency of shearing and therefore require new concepts in designing the cutting process.

Goal of the research cooperation

  • Bundling of knowledge and experience in the area “Shearing of high and higher solid sheet metal material” in a knowledge database

Investigation priorities of the research cooperation:

  • Development of a knowledge data base for shearing
  • Investigations on continuous wear
  • Optimisation of cutting parameters
  • Investigation of optional cutting methods
  • Simulation of the cutting process
  • Reduce of press loading
  • Literature research

By an optimisation of the cutting parameters, a reduction of wear in case of shearing of higher solid sheet metal could be reached to up to 40% so far.
